Leading Together: Advancing Equity and Policy Through Strategic Collaboration

NJACTE members Amy Ginsberg, William Paterson University; LaChan Hannon, Rutgers University, Newark; Stacey Leftwich, Rowan University; Sumi Hagiwara, Montclair State University; and Tabitha Dell’Angelo, The College of New Jersey, presented “Leading Together: Institutions Advancing Equity and Policy Through Strategic Collaboration” about NJACTE’s work at the Teacher Education Council of State Colleges and Universities (TECSCU) annual conference.

The session highlighted how New Jersey institutions affiliated with TECSCU and NJACTE (New Jersey Association of Colleges for Teacher Education) have exercised visionary leadership and strategic collaboration through sustained engagement in the state AACTE affiliate. Presenters—educator preparation leaders from across the state—describe their work on NJACTE’s Executive Committee, Social Justice Committee, and Government Relations Committee, sharing how these roles have enabled cross-institutional action that advances equity, informs state policy, and strengthens the voice of teacher preparation programs statewide.

The session illuminated how TECSCU-affiliated leaders have developed a coordinated leadership model grounded in shared purpose, mutual respect, and a commitment to educational justice. Attendees will gain insights into how participation in professional associations can move beyond institutional advocacy toward collective influence, and how TECSCU-affiliated institutions can build lasting partnerships within and across states.
