The 5th Annual Convening for Diversifying the Teacher Workforce will focus on C.A.R.E.: Community-building And Radical Empathy. This year’s event will examine how the Ethics of Care is being implemented throughout the teacher workforce. Speakers and presentations will address ways educators are caring for themselves, for others and for students.
Week 1: Virtual Session on October 4, 2022 from 4:00 pm to 5:15 pm
This 75-minute session will feature keynote speaker, Mrs. Tanisha Davis, Director of the Office of Recruitment, Preparation and Certification for the New Jersey Department of Education. Mrs. Davis will provide an overview of the state’s initiative on diversifying the teacher workforce. During week 3, Mrs. Davis will return to co-present with state grants’ awardees who will share programs that have been created to address the teacher shortage in the state.
Week 2: Virtual Session on October 11, 2022 from 4:00 pm to 5:15 pm
This 75-minute session will feature Rutgers University, Newark alumnus and Executive Director of My Brother’s Keeper Newark, Mr. Mark Comesanas, who will serve as the moderator of the Voices from the Field. This panel of candidates and completers of color will share their perspectives about diversifying the teacher workforce.
Week 3: Rutgers University, Newark In-person Session on October 18, 2022 from 8:30 am to 1:00 pm
This half-day event will feature keynote speaker, Dr. Lynn Gangone, President and CEO of the American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education. Dr. Gangone will be followed by multiple concurrent sessions on the convening’s theme.
