Reflections from Dr. Amy Kline, NJACTE President

Welcome back! I hope everyone had a chance to rest and rejuvenate over the summer. I am so excited to kick off my final year as President. The energy and enthusiasm of our members is truly inspiring and makes our shared work together so rewarding.

Here are just a few highlights I am looking forward to this year:

Our Legislative Committee will be taking a larger role with our legislative consultant, Princeton Public Affairs Group, and will continue to track pending legislation, while always looking for ways we can “get a seat at the table” earlier and earlier in the process.

Our Program Improvement Collaborative has transformed from its original incarnation as the Performance Assessment Working Group, and will continue to invite members to share, collaborate and participate in thinking around various demands facing New Jersey’s educator preparation programs (EPPs).

The Convening on Diversifying the Teacher Workforce will celebrate its 7th year with a hybrid event over the course of three dates this fall, with speakers sharing their vital research on the many facets of what it means to diversify the teacher workforce.

The Day of Assessment Committee will begin planning our successful annual spring event where we showcase work in assessment, accreditation, and program evaluation, with attendees from across the country.

The Social Justice Committee is planning to continue to build community through shared reading on the various areas of social justice and how we can elevate it in our work as educators.

Finally, this spring I am looking forward to NJACTE once again sponsoring the NJDOE Distinguished Clinical Intern and Cooperating Teacher Award Ceremony, to spotlight our shining seniors who are getting ready to begin their careers in the classroom.

What a year we have planned!

Submitted with gratitude,
Amy Kline, Ed.D.
